As the head guide and customer service manager for Take A Boat, my team and I have heard every question imaginable from our valued guests. We believe that an informed traveler has the best experience. To help you plan your Sundarban adventure with confidence, we have compiled this list of our most frequently asked questions.

Booking and Packages

How do I book a Sundarban tour with Take A Boat?

The easiest way is to visit our official website, takeaboat.com, where you can browse our curated packages, check availability, and make a secure booking. You can also contact us directly by phone for personalized assistance.

What is included in the tour price?

Our packages are all-inclusive from the point of pickup in Khulna/Mongla. This includes accommodation on the boat, all meals, mineral water, snacks, the services of an experienced English/Bengali speaking guide, all forest entry fees and permits, and village sightseeing.

What is not included?

The cost does not include transport to and from Khulna/Mongla from your home city (e.g., bus/train from Dhaka), personal expenses like soft drinks, or tips for the crew (which are optional but appreciated).

What is your cancellation policy?

Our policy is designed to be fair. We offer a full refund for cancellations made more than 30 days before departure. Closer to the date, refund amounts vary depending on our ability to re-book the spaces. Full details are provided at the time of booking.

Preparation and Packing

What is the best time to see a Royal Bengal Tiger?

While we can never guarantee a sighting, the odds increase during the summer months (March to May) when tigers come to the riverbanks to drink. However, the comfortable winter season (October to February) offers the best overall wildlife and birding experience.

What should I pack for the tour?

We recommend light, breathable cotton clothing (long sleeves and trousers), comfortable shoes, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, a camera, a power bank, and any personal medication. Most importantly, bring your original NID card or passport for the forest permit.

Is there mobile network and electricity on the boat?

Mobile network is very limited and often unavailable once we enter the deeper forest. Our boats have generators that provide electricity for lighting and for charging devices at specific times during the day and evening. We recommend bringing a power bank.

During the Tour

What is the food like on the tour?

We take pride in serving delicious, hygienic, and fresh Bangladeshi meals. Our onboard cook prepares a variety of local dishes, including fish, vegetables, lentils, and rice. We can accommodate basic dietary requests if notified in advance.

Are there bathrooms on the boat?

Yes. We at Take A Boat provide clean, western-style toilets and basic shower facilities on our larger vessels. Our standard and luxury packages include cabins with attached bathrooms.

How safe is the tour?

Safety is our top priority. Our vessels are well-maintained, life jackets are mandatory during small boat excursions, and our guides are trained in forest safety protocols. We carry comprehensive first-aid kits and maintain communication with the outside world.

What is the typical group size?

Our group sizes vary but are kept manageable to ensure a quality experience for everyone. We cater to small private groups and larger shared groups. Please check the specific details of the package you are interested in.

Wildlife and Experience

Can I swim in the rivers?

Absolutely not. Swimming is strictly prohibited due to the presence of saltwater crocodiles and other potential hazards.

How close will we get to the wildlife?

For your safety and the well-being of the animals, we always maintain a safe and respectful distance. All wildlife viewing is done from the boat. Our guides are experts at positioning the boat for optimal viewing and photography without causing disturbance.

Will we go on jungle walks?

Yes, but only in designated safe areas, such as the beach at Kotka or the walkways at Karamjal, and always accompanied by our armed forest guard and guide. We never venture into the core forest on foot without proper authorization and protection.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We constantly monitor the weather. In case of inclement weather that affects safety, such as a cyclone warning, we may delay, modify, or in rare cases, cancel the tour. The safety of our guests and crew is non-negotiable.

Still Have Questions?

We hope this FAQ has been helpful. The Sundarbans is a magnificent world, and we are here to guide you through it safely and memorably.
